It's been known to cause chills for cinema goers across the globe, the iconic sound of the THX logo at the beginning of feature presentations. This will remain the case in the foreseeable future, but the company behind the majestic sounds has come under new ownership.

More specifically Razer, a company known for their gaming PCs and peripherals, has acquired the company George Lucas founded some 33 years ago:

"Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision which THX has championed since its inception more than 30 years ago," Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Ta says in a press release. "This acquisition will allow us to reinforce Razer's leadership in gaming and extend the brand into broader areas of entertainment, while at the same time empowering THX to develop into a global powerhouse, independently."

"This doesn't mean that THX will stop doing what it's been doing for the last three decades, nor that any employees will be sacked, but rather an expansion of their business. THX will operate independently but their new ties to Razer will most likely result in new THX certified products such as headphones, PCs, AR/VR headsets and laptops."

"For over 30 years, THX has maintained a proud legacy of being one of the leaders in audio technology and certification worldwide,"Laurie Fincham, senior vice president of Audio Research and Development at THX explains. "With their focus on quality, design and innovation, Razer supports our vision to optimize and deliver the best audiovisual experiences to audiences worldwide." Are you surprised at Razer's acquisition?
