There have already been actual weddings in games like World of Warcraft, but tonight there's another one happening in Warframe, and it'll be endorsed and livestreamed by the developers, Digital Extremes.
Niti and Eli of the Warframe Xbox One Clan Midgard are getting married tonight at 19:00 CET (18:00 BST), and you can take part in the event on Twitch.
According to the couple, the wedding is happening online because it would've been difficult to gather all their online friends in one physical location, but also because they genuinely feel like their online personas are an accurate representation of their personalities. Here's what they had to say in a press release:
"We don't get out much due to health issues, and our entire social life is online. As such we have friends from around the world. We had discussed ways of trying to get all of them there for our wedding, and came to the conclusion that it was impossible, we have friends in Denmark, Japan, America, Canada, Germany and England... it just wasn't going to be possible to get everyone in one place. We also felt that our online persona really is us, it's how we interact with the rest of the world, how we see our friends, how we talk to them. So the idea of having an online wedding was banded about, but until Warframe we had no idea of how to do it, or where to do it."
We think that while this may fall under the stereotypical representation of adult gamers, it's nice to see someone fully embrace their hobbies and be proud of their love for games... and each other. What game would you get married in?
