In spite of its vicious difficulty, or perhaps because of it, the games in the Dark Souls series have become immensely popular. So much in fact, that many fans are comparing the series to the Zelda games.
This, however, is not a comparison Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki feels he has earned. In an interview he admits that there are similarities between the games, but he does not consider his games to be worthy of praise that high:
"When I was a student, The Legend of Zelda was truly monumental", Miyazaki explains. "So to be perfectly honest, I feel deeply unworthy of the comparison. The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls are different games belonging to different genres though, and they're guided by different concepts of game design. They don't need to aspire to the same ideals. If there are similarities, they probably stem from the fact that The Legend of Zelda became a sort of textbook for 3D action games."
Is he being too modest here, or do you consider the Zelda games to rank even higher that Dark Souls?
