A report has recently been published stating that Pokémon Go is one of the most successful mobile games ever released with 550 million installs and $470 million US dollars in revenue within its first eighty days of launch.
The Pokémon spinoff was available free to play in the app store, but contained micro-transactions which offered players the chance to buy items to use in game. According to the new report, despite recently losing millions of players the game still rakes in huge profits per day of up to $2 million, showing that the game may have fallen in popularity, but still has a strong following.
Shockingly when the game launched it was reported to be pulling in up to $16 million a day and that is not including the 30 percent cut that go to Apple and Google.
Pokémon Go has a lot of opportunity to expand even further as well, as it has not yet released in major markets like China and South Korea, which may see it become the highest grossing mobile game of all time.
"Pokémon Go has opened our eyes in many ways. It has refreshed the top-grossing mobile game ranking that has been dominated by a small number of publishers and games for a long time," Newzoo CEO Peter Warman said. "It has proven beyond a doubt that AR can be applied in ways that appeal to a mass audience. Equally important from a business perspective, it has given Niantic investor Google enormous insight and data that it can incorporate into its location-based advertising and services strategy. The fact that Pokémon Go has motivated kids and youngsters to spend more time outside is an additional bonus, even if that means they take their screens with them."
Niantic has stated it has some new features in store for Pokémon Go which have yet to be detailed, so the game may see a slight resurgence soon. You can check out the full Newzoo report here.
