The executive director over at Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba, has revealed that Bayonetta 2 wouldn't exist without the support of Nintendo.

"Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes," Inaba told Polygon in a recent interview.

"We are not viewing this as a change of platform. We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together. As a result the platform became the Wii U."

Sega released the original game, but despite receiving plenty of critical acclaim, it didn't sell enough copies to persuade the publisher to return to the IP.
