There was a lot of people who wondered who would ever buy an Xbox One S when Scorpio had been announced, and when all Xbox games from Microsoft can be played on PC these days. Well, it turns out a lot of people would, at least in the United Kingdom. Last week saw the introduction of the wallet friendlier 500GB and 1TB models.

MCV reports that the hardware sales has skyrocketed for Microsoft with an increase of almost 1000% (989% week-on-week). Last week, 71% of all sold consoles in the UK were Xbox Ones, which is incredibly impressive considering past struggles. The FIFA 17 bundle no doubt helped matters.

Sony also released a slimmed console recently, but according to the same source, it just didn't have the same effect. Instead, the PlayStation 4 only had a market share of 19% last week and unit sales for Sony have actually declined with 66% year-on-year. This might be because fans are holding out for Playstation VR and/or Playstation 4 Pro, which might boost Sony's sales later on.

As one might expect, this was met with an official comment from Microsoft. Xbox UK marketing boss Harvey Eagle said:

"It's great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August. 4K video streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray have been extremely well received and we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console.

It's a fantastic time for gamers with the range of upcoming titles appealing to all audiences, from Gears of War 4 to Skyrim Special Edition and the release this week of the acclaimed Forza Horizon 3. There's never been a better time to own an Xbox One."

Clearly bundles are still a force to be reckoned with when it comes to hardware sales, but do you think Microsoft can keep the positive momentum going?
