While Pokémon Go arguably has been a tremendous success already, developer Niantic Labs is hoping to keep the momentum going by rolling out new updates similar to the recently implemented Buddy system. That's all well and good, but don't expect these to roll out at a rapid pace.
Speaking in an interview, The Pokémon Company's CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara said that future updates like player battles and trading will arrive eventually, but that it's important to take their time:
"Battling is a category that we do best at Pokémon. But it's important to really carefully consider any feature that may increase the difficulty and raise the barrier to entry for more casual users."
