Atari and Cryptic have announced that they're working on a PC-exclusive, co-op RPG, simply titled Neverwinter. They confirmed that the title will feature five "classic D&D classes" along with five-person co-op groups. Neverwinter will be based on an upcoming trilogy of books by fantasy author R.A. Salvatore, who's said to be working closely with Cryptic on the project. Interestingly, the press release also states that players can "create their own storylines and quests utilizing an extremely user-friendly content generation system".
"We're beyond thrilled to develop a brand new version of Neverwinter. It's been years since the original became a gaming icon and we're honored to work with such a great franchise," said Jack Emmert, COO of Cryptic Studios, speaking in a press release today. "We've been working closely with Wizards of the Coast and R.A. Salvatore to create an authentic D&D adventure filled with compelling fiction and exciting gameplay."
The official site's gone live at www.playneverwinter.com. Neverwinter is set to release in 2011.
