Nintendo is potentially looking to bring Amiibo support to future mobile games on iOS, Shigeri Miyamoto confirmed in a recent interview. Specifically, Nintendo are interested in using Apple's NFC technology with Amiibo: "There's nothing we can announce today but it's certainly an area we're interested in," Miyamoto said.

Apple's new line of iPhone 7 smartphones uses FeliCa Type-F NFC contactless technology, which is very common in Japan. Nintendo uses similar NFC technology in both Wii U and the New 3DS.

On top of that, during the recent announcement event for the iPhone 7, Nintendo unveiled Super Mario Run for iPhone as they continue to move further into the mobile space.
