Apple did reveal the iPhone 5 as expected today at their event in San Francisco. The new iPhone 5 will most notably feature a 4" 16:9 screen, and is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than iPhone 4S.

The phone is powered by the new A6 chip that is supposedly two times faster than the previous A5 chip. All apps will work with the new model, but if they aren't updated there will be a blackframe/border to compensate the new resolution (1136 x 640) and format.

As you'd expect most features of the phone have been tweaked and improved. For instance the front facing camera is now 720p. Battery life is officially stated as 8 hrs 3G talktime, 3G browsing. 8hrs LTE browsing, 10 hrs Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hrs video, 40 hours Music. 225 hrs of standby. Of course, if you play games you'll probably want to charge it every day in any case.

There is a built-in panoramic mode for the camera that takes 28 megapixel shots. Interestingly enough there is also a new connector that is smaller (80% smaller) and plugs in either direction. And iPhone 5 will come with iOS 6 that features things such as the new Passbook (a virtual wallet of sorts) and Apple's own map app.

The price has been confirmed as the same as iPhone 4S in the US ($199/16GB, $299/32GB, $399/64GB), with pre-orders starting on September 14, and the iPhone shipping on September 21. iOS 6 will launch on September 19.

Perhaps this was not the most exciting or feature filled announcement in the history of Apple events, but the leaks leading up to the event have also been numerous. Now that iPhone 5 is official, are you excited?
