Yesterday Funcom announced that they had discovered that user data associated with forum accounts on AgeofConan.com, AnarchyOnline.com, LongestJourney.com and TheSecretWorld.com have been compromised.

They also said that the information compromised includes e-mail addresses, usernames and even encrypted passwords. They warned that even though the passwords were encrypted, they should still be considered compromised. Funcom also said that forum accounts and game accounts are different and are stored on different servers and that game accounts are unaffected.

A security fault in the vBulletin forum system allowed the breach to happen and the fault was corrected on August 19, although Funcom are unable to say when the breach initially happened.

Funcom have reset all passwords for all forum accounts on the websites affected and have told those impacted that they will have to reset their passwords when they next try to log in. They also said that if they have used their old forum account password on Funcom game accounts or even non-Funcom accounts they should change those too.

Funcom have also assured that the bug that allowed this data breach to happen has been corrected but they have taken their forums offline anyway as a precaution to check that there are no more security issues before going online again.

They have apologised for the inconvenience and have asked that those who wish to talk to them should contact customer service representatives as soon as possible.
