We now know that Marcus Fenix will accompany his son JD in his adventures in the world of gory monster killing, which has obviously sparked the question of whether the former Gears poster boy will be playable at all in the new campaign.
The answer to that question is "no", as confirmed by The Coalition's creative director Chuck Osieja in an interview with IGN. He's one of the non-playable AI characters this time around, it turns out.
Though, that may not be a bad thing. Osieja said that having old man Marcus as an AI buddy this time around comes with its own benefits.
"What's nice about having Marcus not be a playable character is that because, he's not playable, he reacts to things in the world a lot differently. [In Gears 4,] we kind of get a different perspective from him than we ever did before."
Gears of War 4 will be out on Windows 10 PC and Xbox One on October 11.
