Over $50 million USD have been pledged to game projects on Kickstarter this year (that also includes card and board games), according to a blog on the crowd funding website.
Under the title "The Year of the Game" the numbers are broken down for each medium and are then compared. Games has gone from the eighth, to the second most funded category.
The blog quite rightly points to the turning point being Tim Schaffer's Double Fine Adventure, which smashed its targets and paved the way for developers to follow suit. A new revenue stream appeared and developers haven't looked back since.
