Bad news for all the fans of the popular fantasy series, Game of Thrones. As reported by HBO's president of programming, Casey Bloys, at the end of the Television Critics Association press tour, the famous TV show - created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and based on the series of novels by George R. R. Martin - will end with the eighth season.
As reported by Variety, Bloys stated that Game of Thrones's executive producers "have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do". This is also something that has been communicated by the series creators many times.
"If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons," Bloys said. "But we want to take their lead with what they can do and what the best version of the show is."
Also Bloys told Variety that he had already discussed with the series creators, Benioff and Weiss, of a possibility to produce a spin-off or a different way to continue with the franchise, but it seems "there are no concrete plans at this point."
The seventh season of Game of Thrones will feature only seven episodes and they will be aired during the summer of 2017, and not in spring as happened for the previous seasons.
