Previous Elite antagonist race, Thargoids, may finally be coming to Elite: Dangerous. Or at least that's what players are speculating after starting to solve a fascinating mystery regarding probes of unknown origin.
As reported by Eurogamer, players found these probes in the game that, when scanned, emit an electromagnetic pulse that temporarily disables nearby ships.
The probes also emit a sound file, that ran through a spectrograph (how do people come up with this stuff?), creates a map. What that map really is (or if it's an map at all), is still up for debate, but players suggest it might be linked with a return of the Thargoids to the game. Players even created a group called Myrmidon Initiative to establish some sort of response if the insectoid race actually return to Elite.
At the very least, players seem to be having fun with the idea of Thargoids returning to Elite, and that in itself is pretty cool.
