During its run on TV the Game of Thrones series has delivered more and more impressive battles, with more and more soldiers involved culminating in the brilliant Battle of the Bastards in season 6. In the beginning however, the budgets for the series wasn't quite what it is today, and as a result the series' creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, could not do everything they wanted to.

In fact, a large battle was planned for the first season, but it had to be cut when the money ran out. To Digital Spy the duo describes the battle with the following words:

"Tyrion Lannister follows The Mountain into combat - and we were really excited. We were going to have the camera at Peter Dinklage's eye level and have him follow this giant, The Mountain, into battle and just see everything"

It sounds great, but sadly it could not be done at the time:

"Frankly we just run out of money and we couldn't do it. So that was one of the big battles from the book that we hoped we could get on screen and we never managed to do it."

The money factor is probaly less of an obstacle now that the series has earned its spot as one of the biggest in the world, even though seasons 7 and 8 will be shorter than the previous seasons.
