Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima is having a hard time dealing with investors. During the recent Q&A for the 76th Annual General Meeting of shareholders, many of them doubted his leadership and also asked him to clarify his past words about the failure of Wii U.

In September 2015, as Kimishima took the global presidency of Nintendo, Japanese paper Nikkei reported that Kimishima predicted Wii U would fail before it came to market. Even though he denied the story a couple of months later when talking to Time magazine, the story resurfaced in the general meeting last week.

Kimishima insisted that he never made negative comments about Wii U. Here's his explanation in full:

"In an internal sales representative meeting, someone projected that we would sell close to 100 million Wii U systems worldwide. The thinking was that because Wii sold well, Wii U would follow suit. I said that, since the Wii had already sold so well, we need to clearly explain the attraction of the Wii U if we are to get beyond that and sell the new system, and that this would be no easy task."
