When EA Sports announced The Journey as the big new feature for FIFA 17, some wondered if it was a replacement for the classic Be a Pro mode. The latter is a mode that has been in FIFA for several years now, where you can create a player and try and make a career with him, without any extra dramatic elements.
The Journey has similarities with Be a Pro, since it also lets players experience the career of a young footballer, although in a bigger narrative and a more dramatic style.
We talked with FIFA 17's creative director, Matthew Prior, who confirmed that The Journey will not replace Be a Pro. The two modes will coexist in FIFA 17:
"You are locked to the character of Alex Hunter in The Journey, and the reason we did that is we wanted to maintain the immersion and the visual fidelity we could only really do with a locked character. If you want to create a player we still have Be a Pro player mode, The Journey is not a means to replace it."
This is a small excerpt from a great interview with Matthew Prior, that you can watch in full right here.
