Resident Evil 7 has been announced by Capcom at Sony's press conference. Given all the rumours and the fact Resident Evil is 20 years old this year, the announcement wasn't a huge surprise.

It's been four years since the last numbered instalment of the popular survival horror franchise. The last two core games both wandered off the path of what people loved about Resident Evil. However, if the trailer for Resident Evil 7 is anything to go by, then people needn't worry.

What surprised everyone is the gameplay itself, rather than what Resident Evil fans are used to, it has gone for style not dissimilar to P.T.. There is also a demo now available now for PS Plus. Resident Evil 7 is scheduled to release January 24, 2017, and when it launches it'll support VR via a PSVR mode.

The game is also set to land on PC and Xbox One on the same day, but of course that wasn't mentioned during Sony's presser.
