Rumours have been circulating for some time that indicate a more powerful version of the PS4 - known as PlayStation 4K and/or PlayStation Neo - is going to be announced by the platform holder soon. Indeed, we've heard from sources that we trust that the upgraded hardware is real. But despite it being an open secret, Sony has yet to officially acknowledge the hardware upgrade. Until now.

President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, has officially confirmed to The Financial Times that the company is working on a "high-end PS4", which would be more costly than the current console.

In the interview, House said: "It is intended to sit alongside and complement the PS4 standards. We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle."

However, in a move that may disappoint some fans, House has already indicated that Sony won't unveil the new console during their E3 conference.

House also wanted to avoid making a statement on the possible price and release date of the improved console, saying that they "want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety".

House also moved to reassure PS4 users that all games will support both versions, and that there will be a wide range of games that will support the "high-end PS4".

Finally, both versions of the console will be able to support PlayStation VR, Sony's VR headset that's set to go on sale later this year.

For now we can't wait to find out when Sony will officially unveil the new console. If not E3 then it could get its reveal during the Paris Games Week, Gamescom, or during the next PlayStation Experience. We'll just have to wait and see.

Now, here's everything we Neo about the PS4K.
