Phil Schiller, senior vice-president of worldwide marketing for Apple, recently gave an interview in which he stated that subscription services would be opened up to games in the autumn.
As of right now subscriptions are allowed on some apps, such as news or dating apps, but not games.
Game revenue is currently split 70/30, with the 30 going to Apple, however, with subscriptions available a customer's recurring payments will be split 85/15 if they have subscribed for more than a year. In fact, this policy will be opened up to all apps as of June 13 and will even apply for those who already have users subscribed for more than a year. These changes seem rather beneficial.
"The developers that do have access to the subscriptions have been very happy with them", Schiller told The Verge, pointing out that he believes the new system will be "fair to developers, and fair to indie developers, too".
