You're playing Overwatch. You're pushing the payload, shooting enemies left and right, kicking ass and taking names. Suddenly, an all too familiar call rings out over the map. "It's high noon". Chills run down your spine as you dive for the nearest cover, hoping to break line of sight with the washed-up cowboy who's about to blow your head off.
But the shot never comes. You look at the scoreboard. The enemy team doesn't even have a McCree. What's going on? It's probably voice actor Matthew Mercer fucking with you.
Claims have emerged online that the actor likes to go on voice chat with his teammates and mess with them while playing Overwatch. Specifically by saying "it's high noon" as the character McCree, whom he voices in the game.
That line is significant, as it indicates that an enemy McCree has activated his Ultimate ability. The ability insta-headshots all opponents in McCree's view after a few seconds of charging, so the call-out is a warning to get to cover.
Mercer has confirmed on Twitter that he does indeed mess with his team that way. So if you ever hear a phantom McCree tell you the time of day, now you know why. If you're playing on US servers, at least.
