Speaking at the Develop conference in Brighton today, Tim Schafer confirmed that Double Fine are currently working on four new, signed titles. The games are set to be released at retail and download, with three of the projects themselves headed up by Double Fine's Nathan Marks, Tasha Harris and Lee Petty.
The move to multi-project development follows the cancellation of a Brutal Legend sequel, claims Schafer, who added that they "came very close to going out of business, it was a scary and exciting time". He also assured that working on multiple smaller projects doesn't rule out the possibility of seeing another "large" title from Double Fine. "We could do a mix of one big, one small," pondered Schafer. "If one is successful we could turn it into a larger game."
No further details were given as to the actual content or release schedule of the Double Fine projects, beyond the vague sentiment that Nathan Marks' game allows him to focus on "specific gameplay mechanics".
The Full Throttle developer also spoke about his comments yesterday regarding Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. "I've got to remember to keep my mouth shut," he joked. "That was an accident, I was going to change the name of my talk today to: How To Give Interviews And Remember When The Microphone Is Still On". You really can't burn bridges - it's such a small industry, you see the same people over and over again. No-one ever goes away."
