The UK-based TV show Videogame Nation (VGN) has been officially cancelled. It's currently the only show about video games on TV and will go off air for the last time on June 11.
The show, which was produced by Ginx TV, had been running for just over two years, premiering on the UK channel Challenge TV on March 30, 2014. The show had been seeing good ratings and a regular viewership up until its sudden demise.
In a post on Facebook, co-host Dan Maher said: "It's been incredibly tough for us all to keep quiet about it, and it's heartening to see that it's hit you all as hard as it has us."
In the post he answered some questions about the show and what the future holds for VGN. He explained: "It was nothing to do with ratings, which remained consistently high for the channel and timeslot." In fact it was to do with Challenge TV wanting to focus the channel purely on gameshows.
Questions were raised about a possible future on YouTube, however as Dan said in the post: "Everyone involved in VGN is a professional - we all get paid to play our part in producing the show, the money for which comes from a budget provided by the channel and production company. YouTube isn't a financially viable alternative."
The final show will air this Saturday, June 11, on Challenge TV. However, this isn't the end for video games on British television, as Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit is set to debut on Dave later this year.
