We already knew that EA initially refused Battlefield 1 because of its World War 1 setting. Back then Patrick Söderlund said that the reason for this was that he thought trench warfare wouldn't be fun to play. Now we know there was another reason as well.
According to Gamespot EA's CFO, Blake Jorgensen, revealed the second reason during his speech at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2016 Global Technology Conference. Apparently his exact words were:
"...we were worried that many of the younger consumers out there didn't know that there was a World War 2 or Vietnam, so World War 1..."
Wow, thanks for making many of us in the Gamereactor staff feel old, Jorgensen. And is this true? Do you know what the Great War/World War 1 was?
