As part of the ongoing Unite Europe VR conference in Amsterdam, Unity has introduced a new three-tiered subscription program for their popular game engine. The goal of the new structure is to give the users more power and choice, based on the size of their project and thier organizations.
The three tiers are as follows:
• Unity Personal - Full featured and free to anyone with funding or revenues of less than $100,000 USD per year; includes Unity Ads giving developers extensive analytics on game performance
• Unity Plus - Together with the other features, includes specifically designed asset store project packs, game performance reporting, and real-time data feeds from Unity Analytics. $35 per month with annual commitment ($100k revenue cap)
• Unity Pro - The full suite for professional developers, Pro is the version of Unity used by the creators of many of today's most original and popular games. $125 per month with annual commitment (no revenue cap)
The new subscriptions will be available starting June 1st, across all platforms (PC, console, mobile and VR/AR). Exisiting customers will receive personalised transition offers from mid-June.
Furthermore, Unity has also revealed some new features at the event:
• Unity Connect: A new talent marketplace bringing together Unity artists, developers and creators with opportunities at studios and companies of all sizes. Currently in closed beta, pre-registrations for the next beta phase open.
• Unity Collaborate: Currently in beta, a collaboration service to make sharing and multi-person project management available straight from the Editor
• New tool code "LookDev", to improve artist workflow and production quality. The tool, allowing artists to validate their physically based rendering (PBR) assets, will be available in Unity 5.5 beta. Artists can load an asset and easily inspect and check it under various lighting conditions (lighting condition represented by high dynamic range image [HDRI])
