Have you ever tried to change your gamertag on Xbox Live only to find that all your great suggestions have already been snagged by someone else? Well, today your luck might change as Microsoft have decided to release a million of previously locked gamertags.

The tags are of the old variety, with roots stretching as far back as the original Xbox console, making it all the more possible that some gems are hidden in the mix.

If you are worried Microsoft is trying to sell your tag however, you can rest easy. These are garmertags that have not been used in over a decade, that never migrated over to the Xbox 360.

Microsoft plan to release the tags today, along with a list showing what's been made available. If you want to change your tag however, you must be prepared to pay around £7 (€9). The sole exepction to this rule is the option to change your tag once for free, to rid yourself of the random gamertag you were given when sigining up for the service.

You can change your gamertag through Xbox.com, the Windows 10 Xbox app or your Xbox One console.
