Once in a while we hear rumours of Resident Evil 7, but after the reveal of Umbrella Corps and the 4, 5 and 6 remakes, our hopes for an announcement in the near future diminished. Today those hopes were revitalised.
Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of the Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games, has shared a few details on his Twitter: "1) About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate."
Capcom said that they would go back to the series' roots in Resident Evil 6 as well, and many will say they didn't deliver on that, so we'll take that statement with a grain of salt. Fortunately we may get an indication at next month's E3 as Toto continues: "2) They will show it at E3. The RE7 team hired Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on MGS V and P. T. at Kojima Productions."
"Will show" doesn't necessarily mean that it'll be officially revealed at E3, as it may mean that it'll be shown behind closed doors. If Amaro is in fact working on the game that doesn't give us much of a hint about the title either way. He was a level designer on both Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and P.T., two very different games. Does this mean that Resident Evil 7 will let us explore huge areas, or tiny hallways? What do you want?
