Nintendo plan return to movie business in 3 years

But there's no project in the works currently.

After successfully entering the mobile market, thanks to their new social app Miitomo, Nintendo is preparing to invade a new area, which - partly as a result of their bad performance with Super Mario Bros. movie - they preferred to keep their distance to: movie adaptations of their games. But in a recent interview with Asahi Shimbun (via NintendoLife), Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, announced that there's interest in getting back into the movie business again.

The company is considering the possibility of producing movies based on their most popular characters. But mindful of their not exactly brilliant past, Nintendo have plans to proceed on their own, without relying on external studios (sorry, Uwe Boll). At the moment, there's no project in the works, but it seems that the company is interested in making a movie in the next three years. Who knows what will be the characters on which Nintendo is willing to work, but several alternatives enter our minds...
