What would you play in an MMORPG where you're actually ageing. If enemies don't kill you, age will - eventually. That is one of the ground breaking ideas in Chronicles of Elyria, which is currently running a successful Kickstarter campaign.

The game is being developed by Soulbound Studios, which is run by a lot of industry veterans, with experience from the likes of Bungie, Pandemic, Sony Online Entertainment, and Microsoft Game Studios. They are 16 people right now, but they say that they "will grow dramatically after the Kickstarter".

Your character is only a pawn in the larger story and the quests are non-repeatable, the environment destructible, and resources finite. This will force you to rethink a lot of what you take for granted, and you'll also know that your experience will be unlike everyone elses.

When your character eventually dies, he/she will be reincarnated when you create your new one. And you will get to keep some of your experiences. To grow up and die will take between 10-14 real world months. Every in-game death also shortens your life span.

If this sounds interesting, head this way for more information. There are plenty of fresh ideas in this game and the goal of $900,000 is on track to be fulfilled and then some, with around $730,000 collected and 24 days to go.

The developers themselves explain their Kickstarter campaign like this:

"We've turned to Kickstarter to fund this project because traditional game publishers won't take this risk. They are incentivized to clone the latest success and merely re-skin it. But not all players want a WoW clone or to play the same game every time. Our innovative ideas come FROM gamers FOR gamers. WE want to play this game, so we turn to YOU to help make that happen."
