During PAX East Gearbox has reaffirmed its plans to make Borderlands 3, but with the caveat that it'll happen only once it's finished working on Battleborn and all of that game's DLC.
During a panel at PAX several key staffers from the studio, including president Randy Pitchford, were on hand to discuss their next title.
"It's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands," Pitchford confirmed, before later hinting that there might even be Easter eggs for the upcoming game hidden away in Battleborn DLC.
It'll be Gearbox's third game in the series (2K Australia made the Pre-Sequel) and it'll most likely be called Borderlands 3. But given the studio's penchant for irreverent humour, don't bet on it.
"We don't even know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know," Pitchford said to the assembled audience.
Of course it's no surprise to hear that the studio is going to return to its most popular franchise, and they've already said it was planned thus it was always a matter of when, not if. However, the news will still be music to the ears of Borderlands fans the world over, who now know that development will begin sooner rather than later, with Battleborn set to hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 3.
Thanks, Eurogamer.
