John Romero, the developer best known for his work on the original Doom back in the '90s, has been on Twitter teasing what may well be his next shooter.
If it's the real deal then the game will be PC-based first-person shooter. Romero links to a report on Shack News that in turn links to a site called Hoxar Inc, with the Doom creator suggesting that "there may be something to this."
There's not much to go on once you've clicked through. You're greeted with the words: "THE HOLODECK IS REAL. IT'S HERE. NOW. Experience the incredible reality of BLACKROOM." There's also some text relating to holographic technology.
You can also sign up for updates on the Hoxar site if you so wish, but given the similarity between the company name and the word hoax, we're not convinced we'll get much back from them.
It looks like there's something going on, and the website is certainly slick to be part of some kind of publicity stunt. It has been a long, long time since Romero has been heavily involved with game development, so it'd be interesting to see what a modern shooter of his might look like.
