The Harvest Moon-esque farming game, Stardew Valley, has been a huge success on Steam in the last couple of months, being almost consistently in and around in the top sellers list.
It was made by a single man, Eric Barone (or ConcernedApe), and you can really tell that it was a labour of love. Barone spent four years working away on a title that, in his eyes, is a fan-made alternative to the Harvest Moon games.
It has been so successful, in fact, that it sold half a million copies in under two weeks, and the success story has continued. This week publisher Chucklefish announced that it has reached over 1 million copies sold in the two months since release. This is a phenomenal achievement for any indie game, let alone one created by just one developer.
Stardew Valley puts you in the shoes of a character of your choice, one who has just inherited a farm from their grandfather after getting tired of their office job. On your farm you can do as you like; raise animals, plant crops, get married, and much more - the world is your oyster. Here at Gamereactor we loved it, so check out our review to find out why.
