John Schappert has left his position as Chief Operating Officer at Zynga, it has been revealed.

Fortune is reporting that Schappert resigned following an internal restructuring that saw him relieved of many of his responsibilities.

"We can confirm that John Schappert has left Zynga and its Board of Directors effective immediately," said Zynga's Mark Pincus.

"John has made significant contributions to the games industry throughout his career and we appreciate all that he has done for Zynga. John leaves as a friend of the company and we wish him all the best."

Schappert's resignation is not thought to be connected with EA's recent decision to sue Zynga for what they describe as "their blatant copying of The Sims Social."
