Ubisoft held a livestream last night where they revealed some major changes coming to The Division in twelve days.
First and foremost there's Incursions, which a lot of you were hoping were like Destiny's Raids. Well, there are a few differences. Incursions are also meant to be extremely difficult, and can only be played on Hard or Challenge difficulty. As if the difficulty setting wasn't enough there won't be any checkpoints in the mode, so Ubisoft claims that only highly skilled teams will be able to complete them. Luckily there's matchmaking.
They didn't show any unique mechanics during the stream, but promised that there will be something special about each one. Apparently they didn't want to spoil them. Hopefully this is true, as we'll be able to play through each Incursions multiple times to find better loot. You might want to test this out because there are something called 'gear sets' coming with the update. Some of these can only be found in Incursions, others in the Dark Zone. By finding all the pieces for the "Sentry's Call", "Striker's Battle Gear", "Tactician's Authority" or "Path of the Nomad" sets you'll be rewarded with special Talents. Each set is meant for different play styles, and so is each respective Talent.
The first Incursion, Falcon Lost, will take place in the sewers in a water treatment facility, and has narrative implications.
As many speculated The Divison now adopts something similar to Destiny's Light level, as we'll be getting a gear score with the update. This comes into play in both matchmaking and Incursions (Hard recommends a certain gear score, while Challenge requires a even higher gear score).
Having trouble finding great gear? Fear not. We're getting gear trading. All you have to do is drop items on the ground, and a player in your group may pick them up. In the Dark Zone this will only be possible at Dark Zone gates. There's also a time limit of two hours for trading items within a group. This means that you can't trade items that you've owned for more than two hours.
Speaking of the Dark Zone, hourly supply drops will now come to the PvP area. High level gear will drop somewhere on the map, and once someone picks it up it's gone. Be warned though, as chances are high level enemies will be guarding the drop. The gear won't be contaminated, so no need for extraction.
The "regular" zone will get a few updates. New daily and weekly missions called Assignments will ask us to complete side goals to earn Phoenix Credits, Division Tech and more. One example is to kill a certain amount of enemies from a specific faction.
Enemies in both zones will now be able to use flying drones, and armoured enemy carriers will be added. These can't be defeated by simply shooting them, but require different tactics.
There's also a new spectator cam, which lets you cycle between other players in your group.
The update drops on April 12, the same day as both Far Cry Primal and Destiny's respective updates.
