Is this what Nintendo's next controller will look like?

There have been plenty of unauthorised reveals regarding consoles over the last year or so, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep these things a secret ahead of release. Nintendo used to be the only exception, but now even they have faced a seemingly major leak.

It is Dual Pixels that have posted images of a strange looking controller that basically seems to be analog sticks on top of what is presumably a large touch screen. Destructoid has analysed these pictures and reckons that they don't seem to be photoshopped.

What makes this even more interesting is the fact that a Nintendo patent was discovered late last year that seemingly matches this photograph perfectly. The patent had this description:

"A non-limiting example information processing apparatus comprises a housing, and a first portion of the housing is formed in an elliptical form when viewing from the front. A display panel and a touch panel constitute one main surface of the first portion. Holes are formed in left and right end portions of the display panel and the touch panel, and two operation sticks are provided through the two holes. When viewing the first portion from the front, an area except key tops of the operation sticks becomes a display area."

Besides touch-screen controls and thumbsticks, the controller also has shoulder buttons and built in gyro. According to the patent it also has a storage card slot as well, which matches previous rumours that it would be usable by itself as a portable console.

Take all this with a grain of salt until further notice.
