Microsoft spent a fair bit of money to secure the exclusive console rights for Rise of the Tomb Raider. The end result will be gap of about a year between the Xbox One version and the PlayStation 4 version, but the PC version was only held back a couple of months (and to be fair it is not uncommon for PC versions to arrive a little late anyway).
The PC version arrived late January, and it was a well made port with impressive graphics and high performance. But what about the sales? Well, it seems the decision to push the game out for the PC rather quickly was a good one, as this version has sold far better than on Xbox, according to Super Data Research:
"Initial sales numbers on digital console for Rise of the Tomb Raider were soft, due to sharing its release date with Fallout 4 and its exclusivity to Xbox One," analyst firm Superdata Research states. <i>"The game sold almost three times as many units on PC than it did on console during its first month."
Now as far as we can tell Super Data Research have only compared the digital sales of the game, and thus it does not paint a complete picture. After all Steam is a digital platform that's a lot more potent than both Xbox Live and PSN.
Regardless it sounds like Rise of the Tomb Raider is off to a good start on PC.
