The way we are buying video games is rapidly chaninging, and a fresh example of this comes from Todd Howard, producer of several The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. In an interview with Game Informer, he reveals that more games were sold digitally than at retail on launch day of Fallout 4:

"I think you lose a little perspective when making games, and you're happy that it got done. You hope that when it comes out, it's really good, and sells like crazy. That's what's in your head. One of the things that is amazing: Fallout 4 sold more day one digitally than at retail. That's a big change."

Given that Fallout has a huge PC following and the PC market is pretty much all about digital (read Steam) it is perhaps not all that surprising, but it also indicates that digital sales on console were strong.
