Microsoft "committed" to Xbox One and PC cross-buy

"We'll make it a platform feature. We think it's good for gamers," says Spencer.

Earlier today we told you that Microsoft are introducing cross-buy with Quantum Break, and that those who pre-order the game on Xbox One will also get a token for a second copy on Windows 10 PC.

We wondered if this was a one-off promotion or whether the platform holder was planning on introducing the feature more often as they continue their push into the PC space. We reached out to Microsoft and asked them, and this is the statement they sent us:

"It's an interesting model in which we can see a lot of value for customers. We're committed to bringing more Microsoft Studios games to Windows 10 and enabling rich cross-device scenarios with Windows 10 and Xbox One. We have nothing further to announce right now."

While that was promising but a little non-committal, Xbox chief Phil Spencer also offered a comment during a conversation on Twitter which further suggests that cross-buy is something we're going to see more and more often between Xbox One and PC.

The conversation in question saw one user ask whether we're likely to see third-party cross-buy between Xbox One and PC, and although we're not surprised to hear that third-party support isn't in the works, his response is encouraging:

"We'll make it a platform feature. We think it's good for gamers."

Spencer's answer suggests that cross-buy is here to stay between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, which is definitely great news for those lucky enough to have access to both platforms.
