If you've been watching the UFC in recent years you're probably very familiar with Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson - the one and only flyweight ever in the organisation. Johnson won the belt back in September, 2012 (against Joseph Benavidez) and has gone on to defend it a total of 7 times (most recently against John Dodson in September last year). He also owns the record for the latest finish ever in a UFC fight at 4:59 in the fifth round with an armbar against Kyoji Horiguchi.
And you're probably well aware that prior to the UFC enforcing a uniform deal (outlawing all individual fighter sponsorship inside the Octagon), Johnson (who fights out of Washington state) would typically rock Xbox branded shorts on fight night. An avid gamer Johnson have become a rather successful streamer on Twitch as of late using the nick Mightymouseufc125 with just over 20,000 subscriber on his channel. He's been playing a lot of Bloodborne recently, so clearly he's not in an exclusive relationship with Xbox...
The 29-year old fighter is playing "around 15 hours" per week now, and is joined by fellow fighters like "Rampage" Jackson on Twitch. For now it's a hobby, but Johnson sees a future for himself in gaming.
"You have to think about what you're going to do after your career. I've always thought about going back to work at a warehouse or whatever I need to do to make ends meet, but now streaming and video gaming is just kicking off. All I care about is the next game coming out next month. I'm still fighting, I'm in the prime of my career and train my ass off every single day, but I'm starting my second career now. Why not? I'm building my viewership and community now, so when I'm 38 years old and I'm done fighting I can have streaming as my main source of income, hopefully."
