Ex-Blizzard devs hopes to fund Broken on Kickstarter

This campaign is merely for the pre-production phase.

A bunch of ex-staffers from Blizzard are launching a Kickstarter-project for their upcoming horror action game Broken, a horrific tale taking place in the year 2021. Broken will tell the story of Navy Seal Logan Kyle and his family. Set in the wake of an extremist group's catastrophic global biological weapon attack, it posits a world inhabited by mutants. The game is inspired by The Last of Us, Half-Life and The Walking Dead. This all sounds very promising, but there is a reason why the campaign is struggling to get off the ground with just $3,361 pledged from 76 backers of $275,000 goal. This money is not going towards the actual finished product, but towards pre-production at the end of which backers will receive a vertical slice of the game. Kollide Entertainment then hope to launch a second campaign with the goal of completing full production (estimated to cost $2.5 million).

It's easy to see why the Kickstarter crowd is taking a hesitant approach as most high profile campaigns asking for the sort of funds Broken is usually have more to show and usually aim to deliver the full game at the end.

Remains to be seen if Kollide can turn this around and be successful, but it is probably a good idea to seek funding elsewhere and return to Kickstarter with a vertical slice to show off and convince punters that the game has what it takes.
