The always keen eyed newshounds over at NeoGAF have spotted that Ubisoft have filed an opposition to EA's "Ghost" trademark (US Serial No. 86/568,852 and 86/568,854). Now Ubisoft claims that the use of Ghost infringes on their established Ghost Recon trademark, while EA have filed theirs to safeguard Ghost Games, the studio behind the two most recent Need for Speed titles.

This is one of those cases where likely Ubisoft don't see any true risk that the two properties are confused, but that they fear that allowing Ghost to be registered will open them up for challenges down the line. It is of course a bit ridiculous to think that anyone would confuse Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Something-Something with Ghost Games makers of Need for Speed. But there you have it and the only winners here are the lawyers.
