Update

Bungie are preparing to roll back the PvP changes that they stealthily introduced late last year. Writing over on Bungie.net community manager Deej offered the following:

"In light of recent feedback from the community, it's very clear that we have more work to do. As that work progresses, I'd also like to pledge that you'll be more included in that process. The next step on that front begins with this Iron Banner.

"Lord Saladin's battle for the Spark will feature new matchmaking settings that will assign more emphasis to connection quality. These changes will be made in an effort to reduce lag. There will still be some consideration given to matching you with worthy adversaries, but that's a thing we've done since Destiny first shipped."

After one day of the current skill-based matchmaking in the Iron Banner, Bungie are going to roll out "New Matchmaking" so they can see the numbers before and after the switch.

"If all goes well, we intend to deploy the new matchmaking settings to more Crucible playlists over time. And, in keeping with this trend, we'll be sure to let you know. This is the continuation of a conversation in which you influence the development of Destiny. Stay tuned for updates."

Original

Bungie are faced with some disgruntled fans after sections of the Destiny community voiced their discontent after the stealthy implementation of skill-based matchmaking late last year.

Previously Bungie had drawn criticism from players unhappy with location-based matchmaking, because although they were able to offer reasonably steady connections (apart from all the lag switching - but that's a completely different story), some games were one-sided affairs.

The move to introduce a "mercy" feature that would end a game early when one team was being thrashed obviously hasn't done the trick. To counter that Bungie introduced skill-based matchmaking in October. The only problem... they didn't tell anybody about it at the time.

Since October they have been switching over playlists to the new SBMM, except now some players are unhappy at the distinct lack of communication from Bungie, something that they apologised for in the most recent post on Bungie.net.

Beyond that there's murmurs of frustration about the lack of information coming out of the studio regarding the next batch of PvE content heading to the game. It was back in September that the excellent expansion The Taken King was released, and apart from a spot of Sparrow Racing, new content has been few and far between.
