A reboot of the 2004 Xbox exclusive Phantom Dust was announced back E3 2014 and was supposed to be developed by Darkside Game Studios, but shortly after the announcement things got eerily quiet. Early in 2015, we reported that Microsoft had cut all ties Darkside Game Studios and that the game was officially put on ice. But now it seems like it might be out of the freezer again, and last week Microsoft once again filed for a trademark specifically for Phantom Dust.

Maybe we'll get to see the game soon again under the care of a new developer? Let's hope so, the original game fast paced and very entertaining - but largely overlooked as the original Xbox wasn't as popular as it successor. A good reason for a re-envisioning if we ever heard one.

Please notice that this is a brand, new trademark and a very strong indication that the game is being worked on. Microsoft already has Phantom Dust trademarked since 2003. This time they've added online support according to the new filing.
