Forget about Edward Grieg and A-ha. When the city hall in Oslo, Norway fires up its chimes the inspiration is rather Super Mario and Minecraft.

The twin-towered building in the bay of the city has a long tradition of playing a little tune each time the clock reaches a new hour, and recently a new rotation of musical pieces was introduced.

18 tunes are played, one for each hour between 07.00 and 00.00, two of which are drawn from the realm of video games. More specifically the "Super Mario Theme" is played at 20.00, before "Subwoofer Lullaby" from Minecraft can be heard at 23.00.

Alongside them in the rotation we find pieces from the likes of Motörhead, John Lennon, John Williams, Henry Mancini, Vivaldi and Edward Grieg (strike what we said earlier), until a new rotation is introduced on June 1st.
