Adele's chart-topping album, 25, sold more than 2.6 million copies last year, narrowly beating FIFA 16 as the best-selling entertainment product in the UK during 2015. Well, kinda.
FIFA 16 obviously costs a lot more money than the album meaning it will have taken more money. On top of that digital sales of Adele's album were factored in, meanwhile digital FIFA sales were not (which means it's very likely that EA's football sim outsold its musical counterpart, we just can't say for sure).
FIFA 16 was one of five video games that made it into the top ten entertainment products of 2015, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (1.9m), Fallout 4 (1.1m), Star Wars Battlefront (1m) and Grand Theft Auto V (999k) all featuring. Fair play to GTAV, this was the third year running that the game featured in the top ten.
The stats, which come via ERA, suggest that with a turnover of more than £6billlion, UK entertainment has had its best ever year in terms of sales, with video games providing the most significant boost after a huge (estimated) increase in digital revenue.
