Sony claimed it was virtually impossible and despite the fact that the console has been a full two years on the market, no one had succeeded, that is until now. PlayStation 4 has been hacked and is now officially jailbroken. This can obviously facilitate piracy of games which is something that could impact developers and publishers negatively. It is the hacker CTurt who has exploited a security hole in an old firmware version (1.76, from September 2014), and although he writes on Twitter that he is not interested in pirating games, this is obviously not good news for Sony. Remains to be seen if piracy takes off now.
