Yesterday we reported that Minecraft now has been formally announced for Wii U. As it turns out, it is none other than the owner of the game - Microsoft - that will handle the localisation as well as the publishing of the game.
This means they will publish a game on a competitor's console.
Mojang, creators of the game, are listed as the publisher for the game in the US, but Microsoft is still in the information box as a developer of the game along with 4J Studios (responsible for the port). Minecraft can, of course, be played on PlayStation formats as well, but those versions are published by Sony.
The good news here is that Microsoft truly appears to live up to their word after purchasing Mojang and Minecraft, and that they are not only allowing the game on non-Microsoft platforms, but actually actively pursuing more platforms to add to the growing list of Minecraft platforms.
