Industry analyst Michael Pachter (Wedbush Morgan) has never been afraid to speak his mind, and once again Nintendo is in his crosshairs as he weighs in on the prospect of the upcoming NX.
This time the message is far from controversial. He merely states something great many people feel. Put simply, he urges Nintendo to focus on securing significantly better third party support for their next console (codenamed NX). If this cannot be achieved the new machine will follow in the footsteps of the Wii U, Pachter says:
"If Nintendo gets the same level of support for NX that it got for the Wii U, it's doomed before it launches. If it's a whole different language, or requires a whole different programming scheme, or requires something to do with the GamePad where you've got the controller different the way Wii U works, it's doomed. No one's going to support it.The more this thing looks like a PS4 or Xbox One I think the better it does, and, ultimately, the only people who are going to buy it are people that don't have a PS4 or Xbox One. Or, people who have a PS4 or Xbox One, and want to play Nintendo games."
Should Nintendo really make something similar to PS4/XOne, or should they once again try something different and risky? It's a tough decision, but Pachter's point about getting the third parties on board is hard to argue against.
