In spite of landing in fourth spot on the latest British sales charts, the Xbox exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider had a relatively weak launch. In light of this Chris Brown, not the artist but the product manager for Microsoft rival Sony in the UK, has pointed out that the game released with som very stiff competition.
"Poor Tomb Raider ?. UK sales: Rise of the Tomb Raider <63k. And #Fallout4 - despite Microsoft Xbox One support - still sold better on PS4 ?", Brown writes on Twitter.
Surprisingly he does not mention that the game probably would have sold better if the PS4 were among the platforms. Instead he focuses on Fallout 4 stealing most of the attention, and in truth he wouldn't have known when to release Lara Croft's newest adventure himself, had it been his job:
"I think that's it: releasing the same week as Fallout. But when do you release it. COD/Star Wars/Halo 5 all back-to-back."
But Rise of the Tomb Raider did sell 63,000 copies in the UK in its first week, a decent number. And you should consider that the game will hit PC in the beginning of 2016, and the PS4 about a year from now. Publisher Square Enix likely already made a pretty penny selling the exclusivity to Microsoft as well.
